A man hurled a children’s bicycle off a third-storey balcony during a cocaine binge before trying to stab his neighbour with a kitchen knife.

Kirk Daniels, 31, was this week locked up for 15 years over the attack, which happened in a communal courtyard on the Provost Estate, Hoxton, in the early hours of September 5 last year.

After getting into a fight with the neighbour, Daniels threw the kids’ bike off his balcony and just missed hitting his victim.

Moments later he grabbed a 12-inch kitchen knife and rushed back down to the courtyard where he repeatedly stabbed the man.

A passer-by intervened and was able to use the abandoned bicycle as a shield before flagging down a police car.

Once arrested Daniels admitted taking cocaine before the incident and tested positive for the Class A drug in custody.

The neighbour’s shoulder was dislocated during the incident, and he was left with superficial stab wounds to his legs and stomach.

Daniels was found guilty of possession of a pointed or bladed article in a public place during a trial in April but acquitted of attempted murder.

The jury was hung for the two grievous bodily harm (GBH) offences, but he was found guilty of GBH with intent and attempted GBH with intent during a retrial in September at Wood Green Crown Court.

Investigating officer Det Const Sophie Hayes commended the passer-by for his bravery.

“This was a terrifying ordeal for the victims and they were incredibly lucky that their injuries were only superficial,” she said.

“The attack could have easily had a very different outcome.

“The sentence given should give Daniels plenty of time to reflect on his horrific actions.”

Daniels was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for GBH with intent and 12 years for attempted GBH with intent, to run concurrently.
