A man who used a wheelchair and was stabbed to death in Hackney has been named for the first time.

Jade Anthony Barnett, 38, was attacked at around 3.30pm yesterday (August 28) in Rushmore Road, Clapton.

Police had been called to a fight in the road, and officers found Mr Barnett at the scene suffering from stab wounds.

He was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been notified and are being supported by specialist officers.

Two men – aged 28 and 21 – have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody at an east London police station.

The victim’s sister, Simone Barnett, told the PA news agency that her brother was “jolly, cheerful, caring”.

His friends reportedly said he used a wheelchair after losing his leg in a motorcycle accident in 2007.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, who is responsible for policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said: “Our investigation is still in the early stages and my detectives are working hard to establish the circumstances of what has happened this afternoon.

“A number of streets have been cordoned off as our investigation continues at pace and I am grateful for the patience of the local residents of Clapton.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the victim at this difficult time. The public can expect to see continued and significant police activity in the local area as we continue with our rigorous investigation.”
