An anti-racist protest is set to take place amid rumours of a planned far-right attack.

Stand up to Racism has announced it will hold a ‘stop the far right’ rally in Leswin Road, Stoke Newington, at 5pm this evening (August 7).

It comes after rumours circulated online that a far-right demonstration had been planned for outside The Old Fire Station.

The Metropolitan Police has declined to comment on whether it is aware that far-right action has been planned in the area.

But the force said yesterday that it would “use every power, tactic and tool available to prevent further scenes of disorder” in the capital.

Over the past few days, MPs have warned that riots might hit London this evening.

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy urged her constituents to avoid Walthamstow Central, after a list threatening disorder at dozens of immigration advice services was published.

Her intervention came after a week of violent scenes across the country following the deaths of three young girls in a stabbing in Southport.

There were riots after false information was posted online that the suspect was an Islamic asylum seeker, but violence continued after the rumours were shown to be false.

Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP Diane Abbott has not directly addressed rumours of planned action in Stoke Newington.

But, posting to X earlier today, she said: “Far-right riots continue. Lists of targets circulated. People living in fear.

“Government must challenge the racism. Parliament should be recalled.”

Hackney Council has been approached for comment about the rumoured demonstration.
