A man dragged a woman into a driveway and covered her mouth as he tried to rape her after the Euro 2024 cup final.

The victim, who is in her 20s, was walking along Kingsland Road on July 15, just before 1am, when she noticed a man following her closely.

She stepped aside to let him past and carried on walking when there was enough space.

But as the victim crossed the road at Downham Road, she noticed the suspect was in front of her with his hand outstretched as he tried to touch her face.

The victim ran across both lanes of Kingsland Road but the suspect sprinted after her and grabbed her arm before sexually assaulting her.

He then pulled her into a driveway and covered her mouth as she tried to scream for help.

A delivery driver on a bike heard the screams and peered down the driveway, which allowed the victim to escape. The suspect calmly walked away.

The Metropolitan Police has released CCTV footage of a man they would like to speak to.

Detective Sergeant Rajkumar Anton Arulnayagam, from the Central East area’s CID, said: “This was an absolutely terrifying ordeal for the victim and we are committed to identifying this predatory man, who is a clear danger to women, as a matter of urgency”

He continued: “At the time of the incident, the area was well-lit and busy – with many people making their way home following the Euros final.

“I’m keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the suspect, or has dash-cam footage. I’d also appeal to the delivery driver who heard the victim’s screams and allowed her to escape to come forward and speak to us.

“You are being treated as a key witness, we know you assisted the victim and your information could be vital in bringing the perpetrator to justice.”

Anyone who recognises the man or has information is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 600/15JUL.
