Children at a 162-year-old primary school are set to break up for summer for the final time this week.
Colvestone Primary School in Dalston is one of four primary schools Hackney Council is closing this summer.
The decision came amid declining pupil rolls in the borough and a need to ease financial pressure on school budgets.
Pupils at Colvestone can take up a place at Princess May Primary School in September, in what the council describes as a “merger” of the two schools.
The school will shut for summer for the last time at lunchtime on Wednesday (July 24).
Colvestone also recently hosted its final ever school fete on July 6, with pupils enjoying a bouncy castle, live music and barbecue.
Many also made friendship bracelets at the event, which was also attended by ex-pupils and former staff members.
Parent Mike Cooter said that the day ended with a disco, as well as a screening of England’s Euros victory in a penalty shootout against Switzerland.
In her final letter to parents, chair of governors Rosie Condon said that staff at the school were “an inspiration”, and thanked parents for their “unrelenting support”.
She added: “Lastly, the children – thank you for being unique, caring, considerate and brilliant.
“Your new schools are so lucky that you are joining them and always remember that! We hope you look back at your time at Colvestone with affection and joy.”
