Two junctions in north London have been named among some of the most dangerous in London for cyclists and pedestrians.
The Blackstock Road junction in Finsbury Park ranked fifth most dangerous for cycling and the Shoreditch triangle (Great Eastern Street and Curtain Road) ranked ninth in a list released by London Cycling Campaign.
According to the campaign group, between 2018 and 2022 there was one fatal cycling crash, one serious crash and eight slight collisions at the Finsbury Park junction.
Over the same five-year period, there were seven serious cycling crashes and 10 slight collisions at the Shoreditch triangle.
For pedestrians it was the second most dangerous junction in the capital, with one fatality, three serious crashes and 10 slight further collisions.
In Finsbury Park, the campaign group said that the junctions were due to be improved when Cycleway C50 is extended east of Finsbury Park station to Tottenham.
But they raised concerns that the current construction of the route stops west of Finsbury Park station.
The group claimed that there were already more than 2,000 cycle journeys daily under the bridge at Finsbury Park, and that if that rises because of C50, the scheme extension will be “even more urgently needed”.
Jeremy Leach, chair of London Living Streets, said: "This mapping shows the horrific impact not only to those cycling, but also to pedestrians, from dangerous junctions across the whole of London.
“Almost 4,000 people were killed or seriously injured on London’s roads last year and well over half of those were either walking or cycling.
“This is simply an unacceptable level of loss and road danger that people walking and cycling face.
“London must take bolder steps to make these junctions safe for those on foot too.
“The actions needed are well known and include pedestrian phases on all arms of crossings, enough time to cross, no more than a 30 second wait and crossings in the places that pedestrians need them.”
