A man who undressed a woman and sexually assaulted her after a night out has been jailed.
Kyle Meredith, 37, of Blenheim Crescent, Notting Hill, denied that he had carried out the assault despite later telling the victim he was “sorry” and how “he knew it was wrong” over text.
Meredith was reported to police by a woman who said she was sexually assaulted by the 37-year-old in a rented apartment in Hackney.
The victim went back to the flat with Meredith and a group of friends after a night out on April 6, 2019, where she awoke to find him massaging her feet. She told him to go away and he left the room.
The victim later woke to find Meredith in the bed, kissing her. She again told him to leave and he complied.
On a third and final occasion that night, the 37-year-old entered the room, undressed the victim and carried out a sexual assault.
This time the victim pushed Meredith out of the room and barricaded herself inside with a chest of drawers.
The woman later crept out of the flat, a few hours after she had been assaulted by Meredith.
The offence was subsequently reported to police and phone analysis showed that the 37-year-old had called and texted the victim after April 6.
He told her that he was “sorry” and that “he knew it was wrong”. Meredith continued to deny the charges against him but was eventually found guilty of two counts of sexual assault.
He was cleared of a third count of sexual assault and ultimately jailed for six years.
PC Abs Shah, who led the investigation, said: “The victim in this case has shown incredible strength and courage.
“Despite many court delays and cancellations, she has continued to fight for justice and the strength of her evidence is what ultimately led to Meredith’s conviction.
“She has been provided with specialist support throughout this difficult period and I hope this serves as a strong reminder of our clear determination to bringing sex offenders to justice.”
