The death of a 7-year-old girl has led to the arrest of a man and a woman in Hackney.
Police were called to an address in the N16 postcode area by the London Ambulance Service on Friday (January 27) following the death of a girl aged 7.
A 49-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were subsequently arrested on suspicion of neglect.
They were taken into custody and have since been bailed to a date in late April.
The N16 postcode area covers parts of Stamford Hill, Upper Clapton and Stoke Newington.
Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death are ongoing.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the Met had circulated a document re-assuring residents about the need for the two arrests.
The statement said: “There has been some concern among the orthodox Jewish community as the arrests were made during Sabbath.
"The arrests were necessary due to the seriousness of the tragic incident and needs of the investigation."
