Lucia Leon feels Spurs Ladies need to be more aggressive in front of goal and take more shots as they continue their preparations for the new season.
After falling behind early on in Sunday’s friendly against Chelsea Ladies’s development team, Tottenham created a host of chances but it took until the 79th minute for Maya Vio to equalise and secure a 1-1 draw as Karen Hills’ side avoided the first defeat of their pre-season programme.
“We are one of those teams that need to get into the goal quicker,” said Leon. “We don’t tend to shoot as much as we perhaps should do – I don’t know if we’re afraid?
“I had one chance to be fair to shoot, but I didn’t. Personally I’m not someone who’ll shoot a lot, but we always have many, many chances.
“We had a lot of chances to score – a lot of crosses, corners, we kept getting into good positions. We had everything to score more goals.
“We just need to keep working, keep training hard and then that aspect of our game will improve and hopefully we’ll shoot more from outside the box.”
Leon played at right-back in the first half against Chelsea before operating as a right-sided midfielder in the second period, and she went close to finding the net.
“It’s key for the team that lots of players can play in many different positions,” she said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s right-back or right wing – we know that player can play there.
“It’s an advantage for us that if one player gets injured you’re going to have another one there - even if it’s not their natural position, they can play there.
“From the first pre-season game to now, our fitness is very, very good – everyone’s feeling great. I think we’re ready for the season to start.
“We still have another friendly [against Reading Ladies’ development side] but we can’t wait to attack the season.”
